EU/friends

When something is ticking along nicely - a relationship with a client company, for example - any change can be a little unsettling and, even against the backdrop of Brexit, climate change, Trump, and the nazis of the alt-right, can be a little preoccupying. And, indeed, there has been a small but significant management change at one of our larger clients and the new chap was coming into the office to meet us, today.

So maybe this wasn't the day to do anything contentious, such as wear the new cufflinks that the Minx gave me for Christmas. Maybe my subconscious was cognisant of the fact the client company is Swiss, I don't know, but I picked them up, put them back down, then was cross with myself for being cowardly and put them back on. I needn't have worried; the chap turned out to be great and the meeting went well.

In the evening, I went out with a bunch of friends. Bob and Rich have been coming up for a couple of years now at this time to celebrate their birthdays, which are close together. This year we were also joined by Ian, who was at university with me and Bob, and Jon, who worked with Bob in Liverpool. All lovely fellows.

We tried to start off our evening at The Plough at Lupton but it was closed, so then we went to the Lunesdale Arms (would most definitely recommend), and finally settled back into Kirkby Lonsdale for the rest of the evening, eating at Number Nine, which is great. Amidst all the uncertainty at the moment, which, of course, we discussed this evening, there was still succour to be taken from the company of friends.
