The Lost Post.....

Once everything was fed , left them on mucking out and bedding cattle , got my collie co-pilot and headed off for a wee jaunt down to Dalbeattie . It was a beautiful sunny day for a drive via Moffat and Dumfries , and parts of the country looked very green.
I was collecting a new headstock for one of our cattle crushes and it saved the £ 150 - £200 delivery costs. It didn’t quite fit in the back bed of the Landrover so had to leave the tailgate down. Nothing a ratchet strap and some baler twine couldn’t cure though. On the way back up the road I stopped at this stone monument. I have passed it plenty of times on my travels but never knew what it was for. As the plaque says it was in memory of 2 mail men that died in the snow in Feb 1831. The road is bleak enough now with tar, imagine what it was like then .
