Today's the day …………………….. to hunt

The inevitable consequence of being fortunate in having lots of birds coming to feed regularly at your garden feeders is that, sooner or later, one of these might join them.

And it's not just sparrows that he is after, any small bird is fair game to provide a tasty snack.  It makes wonderful (if slightly gruesome) viewing to watch this fantastically agile and powerful raptor swooping and diving in a deadly game of catch.

Fortunately, if the small birds dive into the centre of the big, prickly bush they are safe for a while.  The sparrowhawk is good though at the waiting game.  This is him at the top of the bush, patiently waiting for them to think they have given him the slip ……………………..
