Coastal walk
We were out with the local walking group today on a coastal walk around Branscombe. Its a delightful rather remote seaside village and we started by heading off along the Hooken Undercliff path, see main blip. This path takes you along the edge of an area of fallen cliff (back in 1790) and there are great views of the exposed geology. We were told to look out for a Peregrine Falcon that is known to inhabit this area and we eventually spotted him as we were climbing up the cliff. He was perched on the top of a chalk pinnacle, see the small blob at the top of the cliff in extras. We were expecting a mainly cloudy day but we could see the sun slowly highlighting areas of cliff to the west and as we came back down to Branscombe we were enjoying its warmth. Having completed this part of the walk fairly quickly we headed up the hill to the west and then back down into the village by way of the church. The graves in the church were very beautiful in my mind as their ornate structure and the lichen growth over them made wonderful natural patterns. Also in extras. We finished with lunch in the cafe, a good days walk, just the problem of driving the cars out along the very narrow roads in this spot, but we managed it with a little help.
