Tongland Bridge

When the tide is low but there is a lot of fast-flowing water going down the River Dee under the Telford Bridge at Tongland, near Kirkcudbright - you know that it's because they're generating electricity.
Upstream from the bridge is the Tongland Hydro-Electric Power Station and upstream from that is the Tongland Reservoir. When the water level is low in the river, they open the gates of the Reservoir and water flows through the turbines of the Power Station and out again further downstream.
