Isn't the A68 a lively road? Following the line of Dere Street for the most part, surveyed and planned by those Romans, it puts two-fingers up to the landscape and just cuts straight across it. It makes for an enjoyable drive, but less so for passengers, especially over the roller-coaster humpbacks near the Tyne.
