VE Day Commemorations
Today was VE Day; it is a public holiday in France and, as usual, I attended the small ceremony in the town. The Mayor is rather dynamic in his desire to ensure that the event is attended by as many generations of town inhabitants as possible. He gets the local primary school children to do readings and has members of the local Gendarmerie and Air Force present. As we find everywhere, ex-servicemen are also at the front of events, with the town Standard Bearer. This year, we were accompanied by a group of military enthusiasts who have recovered, renovated and maintain US military vehicles dating from the end of WW2. The pictures are of the vehicles they brought to our town.
