New Orleans, Day 4 of 7: Shotgun Houses
Shotgun houses are traditionally only 12' wide and consist of one room behind the next, with no hallways, and with a door at each end. I guess the name came because you could shoot into one door and out the other without hitting anything in between. Poor people lived in them originally, but now they are very fixed up and cost a lot. See a couple more in Extras.
Today, the guys went to Jazz Fest while Kathie and I found our own things to do; I walked all around the neighborhood, shopped, and visited the wonderful Gallery for Fine Photography. It's in a new location from fifteen years ago, but still a nice, quiet respite from the busy streets outside. Extra: I had a solitary lunch at the elegant Mr. B's Bistro.
