Play Date!

Oscar had a play date with Buddy who lives one door up from me. They often meet on the morning walk and play excitedly together  and his owner always says how much better it would be if they met on the playing field, so yesterday we arranged to meet there!
Unfortunately when we met we discovered there was some canoeing event on and there were people in their camper vans having breakfast around the edges of the field! Oscar and Buddy had a mad chase round and then Oscar decided to investigate the people! He actually leapt up at one guy eating a bag of crisps! But he came when I called him so that was a relief!
We decided to walk along by the river - Andy said it was great as the dogs couldn't go anywhere as it was the river one side and sheep in the field the other! Hmmm! Oscar doesn't like the water so can't swim but Buddy loves to run right by the edge and occasionally dive in and of course Oscar follows him so that was fraught! Then we got to the sheep!  That was ok, but not the ditch that runs alongside it which for some reason Oscar went into - only he then struggled to get out and I thought he'd got stuck! Just as I reached him he hauled himself out - covered in mud up to his tummy! Thick, silty, smelly mud! We carried on, meeting other dogs and Oscar was very well behaved, until he went back in the ditch, got stuck again, and finally came out covered as you can see in the photo! 
Once home Andy held him in the back lane as I got the hose and together we gave him a shampoo and shower - seemed like the mud would never stop flowing out of his fur! It then took a good hour before he calmed down and slept! But he does now look lovely again!
