Saint Denis

Spoilt for blip choice today. A stunningly beautiful hot day with clear blue skies and a wonderful luminosity, giving meaning to Paris’ city of light name.

A visit to the Sacre Coeur lead us first into the nearby Abbey celebrating 870 years of existence. In there was this statue to St Denis, whom I’ve seen in various paintings in recent days. In each he is picking p his decapitated head and, according to some stories, he went on to preach holding his head.

He is one of the main patron saints of France and Paris. So merits the blip. (There is just something odd about the perspective when looking at the statue!)

Other potential blips that nearly made it are in the extras: the chimneys of Paris; and the hothouse corridors of the Georges Pompidou Centre.
