Laburnum, Preston Tower, Prestonpans

The furst Sunday of the month, so Spokes Ride day.

Cool and a bit breezy to start. Quite cloudy as well, but no rain (BBC forecast got that very wrong). We headed out of Edinburgh along National Cycle Route 1. It is pretty quiet, and there's a new route through Newcraighall that takes us to the path to Monktonhall and the River Esk. We could, when we get to Dalkeith, take the road, but I decide to stick to the cycle route. A wee bit of a pfaff around Eskbank, but it doesn't take long to get to Bonnyrigg, then head south to Carrington. Once we get to the B6372, we stay on the B road through Gorebridge to Vogrie Country Park.

Warm enough for a picnic lunch in the park, and a nice cup of coffee. Vogrie House itself has display cabinets. Extra 1 drew my attention, all of which was found in the park grounds.

After lunch, we head to Pathhead, then in to East Lothian. The sun comes out as we cycle through Glenkinchie. From Glenkinchie, it's down to West Saltoun, up to East Saltoun, and down to Pencaitland. We head to Tranent, but avoid the town centre and cycle through Windygoul. Then it is on to the Gravity railway to Prestonpans, We stop at Preston Tower, where the main blip, and Extra 2 were taken. Then we join the coast road back to Musselburgh. It's back on to the River Eskpath, where we rejoin National Cycle Route 1 back in to Edinburgh.

Another great Spokes Ride to Midlothian.
