The Prince's Palace
We were very organised and up and out by 9am and in Monaco at 10.30am. My biggest problem was how I was going to get mum up the hill to the palace, so when we arrived at the station, I popped into the information office to ask what options there were, and she said there was a bus that goes up there. So we followed her instructions and arrived at the bus stop which was at Saint Devote (for you F1 fans), and the electronic timetable told us that the bus was due in 10 minutes.
However, the Monaco open top bus tour arrived, so I suggested we get on that as it had to be the best way for mum to see Monaco/Monte Carlo. We went upstairs and got the front seat, so with the sun blazing down we had a great time - we decided to do the full circuit so that mum saw everything, and then when we arrived at the Palace for the second time, we got off the bus.
Mum wanted to go inside the palace, so we bought tickets and visited the staterooms and apartments (sadly no photography is allowed), as well as an exhibition on Grace Kelly - what a beautiful woman she was! We then had a drink at a little cafe overlooking the palace, which I've been to before with Alan, and then we strolled through the streets of Monaco before boarding the bus again.
We got off at the port and headed back to the station, as I wanted to take mum to Villefranche-sur-Mer on our way home, and I knew if we left it too late, we wouldn't go. She loved it, so it was a good decision, and after wandering through the old town we had dinner overlooking the sea. The service and the food was great!
Once back at the apartment we had to do our packing as we fly home tomorrow afternoon, and while mum did hers, I nipped out for a walk and to phone Alan as there's no signal in the apartment.
Anyway, it's late and I'd better get to sleep as we have to check out at 10am. Hope you're having a good weekend!
