A Snowy Rail for Lichen Curtains.

Although we went cross-country skiing today, the light was so flat, that I had to keep stopping to look for detail to find some beauty on the way back down. Fortunately lichen are being very generous at the moment, maybe because they standout against dull backgrounds. I had no idea they were so complicated, in fact they are made up of a fungus (the mycobiont) and a photosynthetic partner (the photobiont or phycobiont) growing together in a symbiotic relationship. It all sounds rather sexy, doesn't it!
