It’s hot. Really hot. The office is hi-tech from the outside, but depressingly unprepared internally. Lots of glass, no aircon, a single room cooled by mechanically circulated air.

Still, we get a fair amount done and finish in time for a shower before dinner. Cooled, we wait for a bus into town. Matt has got his times mixed up, so we let several buses go while we wait for him.

Besançon is a pretty, traditional French town. We walk between solid stone buildings, down wide, flagstoned roads. The local beer is Cuq, but I opt for a pastis - which is a southern affectation apparently and not at all common in Franche-Comté.

The meal is wonderful. I’ve opted for veggie, and although the starter (tomato & avocado salad) and main (omelette with girolles) don’t sound exciting, they are both distinctive and special. The white Bordeaux went down a treat too.

We opt, en masse, to return to the hotel rather than stay in town. I’m asleep before I get on the bus.
