Flamengo, Botafogo and Feira de São Cristóvão
I was up at 7 am to go to the roof top and watch the sunrise.
Until I had found all my stuff it was far too late, but I went anyways and spend 15 minutes or so faffing about with my cameras.
Neil was awake when I came down and we went for breakfast a wee while later.
After that we were both a little slow and lazy and it took a while before we finally left the Hotel.
We took a Taxi to Flamengo to visit Rodolfo, our Barista friend from last year, who now works in another café.
He was delighted to see us and made us a very special coffee while we chatted - now in 2 languages :). There is some progress!
We spoke about loads of things and at some point he mentioned the Feira de Sao Christovao, a huge market and Festival following the Traditions of Brazils North East (Feria Nordestina).
He told us how much he loves it and that it is open day and night on the weekends. From Friday morning until Sunday at midnight.
So Neil suggested we should go there in the evening.
When we let Rodolfo we walked along Flamengo and Botafogo beaches, admired the Sugar Loaf mountain views and ended at a street bar for a beer before taking an Uber back to the Hotel.
We changed and headed out again to get to Sao Crisovao.
The market was different than expected! It was huge and all in an enclosed arena. Shops, food stalls, stages, restaurants, music, karaoke sheds and more!!!
Almost like the Oktoberfest, with the difference that it is on EVERY weekend!
We walked around, had a beer and listened to some traditional music and watched the Brazilians dancing.
It was a huge party atmosphere and all ages were there!
We finally managed to chose one of the many food places and had typical Nordestina food. The sun dried Picanha was lovely.
We finished our meal at 12:30 am! No idea where the time went.
The festival was in full flow and the stages were heaving.
We did another round and then called an Uber to get us home.
That was definitely an experience and we would go back.
Blipping and evening view of the Sugarloaf mountain.
