Today we took a ferry out to the most westerly island in the Faroe group, the island of of Mykines. The origins of this island lie back in the mists of time, and point to Ireland. Celtic artefacts have been found on the island and 'ines', or a version of, means island in the old celtic language. Whatever, it is an interesting idea.
The island now-a-days lies a 40 minute boat journey out from the airport island of Vagar, there are no roads- you either boat or helicopter in. It is well known for its bird life, puffins and gannets mainly but also kitiwakes and fulmer.
We have had 3 glorious days here but living 62° north comes with its weather trials and today we saw them, a fantastic morning but the mists rolled in around 1 oclock and it got considerably cooler and wetter. An interesting boat trip back to the main land.
