Passport to Puglia #14
A spectacular conundrum...
I’ve been wearing glasses to compensate for myopia for as long as I’ve been tying my own shoelaces.
This morning, while going through the daily eye drops ritual, I’d set my spectacles on the windowsill, saw the blip potential straight away and set about making the photograph you see above.
The conundrum is that the image of the derelict trullo seen through my strong, varifocal prescription lenses is pretty sharp, while the background of the image is out of focus, like my natural eyesight.
The background blurring can be explained by depth of field, but I would have expected the lens sections of the image to be equally blurred, as experienced by those who try on my specs.
I guess all can be explained by the laws of optical physics, but it’s a strange image I find oddly comforting.
Equally, oddly comforting, this evening a strange white dog turned up on our plot...she appeared semi-wild but cautiously friendly. For some indefinable reason her presence lifted my spirit.
