Fossil hunting

While in Oban one of our chums was berthed beside a boat just in from Lochaline. The lady on board had just sold some fossils she’d collected at the beach there for £75 to a local shop!

We had planned to come up to Lochaline so of course as soon as we arrived we went fossil hunting! Not to sell, but for the Veep’s geography class back in the High School where she teaches.

These are Gryphaea, oyster fossils from the Jurassic period, around 200 million years old. Apparently they were laid down about the same time as the fossils of the ‘Jurassic coast’ in the south of England. I thought they looked nice in mono, even though I’m a day late for Monday.
