Day 2 The Fringe
Backblip
We woke to a very wet morning. We had to be up early to catch the train back to Edinburgh.
A quick walk to the station in Perth managing not to get too wet.
Mike had a Costa coffee and sausages in a roll.I’m trying to avoid caffeine and bread, among other things , as much as I can so did not have anything.
It was even heavier rain in Edinburgh but decided it was worth the walk to see a Photography exhibition.Dropped the overnight bag into the locker at the bus station and the rain had eased.
Walked past very nice houses, I love looking at the little basement gardens. The exhibition was very good with some great photos including one from one of Mikes friend from down South.
We were about to leave but saw the torrential rain outside and waited for it to stop. We thought we were safe and started our journey to the next venue. The heavens opened again and it seemed ages for the lights to change to get us across the rode.
We quickly decided to go into ‘The Wee Cafe ‘ for lunch and it was a good choice as the food was delicious.
Then a walk up to the UnderBelly area , McEwan Hall ,to see the Manual Cinema’s Frankenstein. A wonderful setting and excellent event. Very clever, you see the silent film develop in front of your eyes with shadow puppets , and clever cinematography. The music that accompanied it used a variety of ‘normal’ instruments and pots and pans etc.
The sun was shining brightly when we walked down The Royal Mile, it was busy but not as bad as I expected. To be honest we were getting fed up by now of leaflets being thrust into our hands so made a quick exit down a side road.We did have a quick look at the artists painting/drawing portraits. Some were very good.
We walked to the Bus Station to pick up our bags and to get some plasters for me as my shoes were rubbing by now.
Back to the Railway station , battling through the people as crowds were waiting for buses and people trying to get from A to B.
A good journey home past flooded fields and high flowing rivers but made it back ok , home just after 10, still raining !
