Diary of an Edinburgher

Festival fun!

Kerri and Luke came today - they're pretty busy young folk, so they come when they can, but they always get a good welcome from Archie. The weather forecast wasn’t good, but lo and behold, the day got better and better as it wore on. In fact, by the time they came back it was sunny and warm, with no sign of rain. We heard all about their upcoming holiday - the Amazon and the Galápagos Islands! Very exciting.

We popped over to George Square to pick up some tickets for a show a friend recommended, and perchance have lunch. Well, I’ve never seen it so mobbed!! (Extra 1). I could hardly make my way across the area - folk sprawled everywhere. We had a lovely wee snack of some 'crispy dumplings' (Extra 2). We then had a wander round the university area, which was absolutely mobbed with people and eating/drinking places. We met several Johnnie Walkers... But at a flat white for £3.50, I decided to do without. It's great to see the city SO busy, with everybody enjoying themselves, and the foodie places doing such good business.

We walked on past the uni, and across the road we spotted a very large dinosaur walking along the pavement. I think it was a stegosaurus tyrannosaurus (as any primary school kid could have told me). The pavement was crowded, but it was VERY noticeable. Archie spotted it across from afar, and as he's never seen one before, he started barking at it. Everybody stopped and was laughing at this silly wee dog, but when the dinosaur answered Archie's barks with a LOUD ROAR, causing even more hysterical barking, the whole place was in uproar, and it went on for quite some time. Most amusing. Wish I’d been ready to video the scene.

We walked home back through the Quartermile development (the old hospital) and popped into a rather nice (dog friendly) pub for a sit down (and some bubbly).

Home again and Archie was tired, not having had his usual snooze. But he (we) had a bonus visit from Elizabeth (she was otherwise engaged during the day) this evening!

Another few episodes of 'Big Little Lies' this evening...
