English eccentricity
Mostly on the canal we’ve seen very pretty boats but you do come across the occasional weird and wonderful, like this one.
The boat is still not working properly and so we limped along trying to get to a lock by a road so we could get the engineer out. I git off and walked picking blackberries along the way.
As I was waiting at the lock I spotted them bring towed in by another barge. We rang the boatyard but they said they couldn’t come out until the morning but they would bring a new gear box. However to compensate for the problems we should have tonight’s dinner on them. Great, but the nearest was a 45min walk along the canal and we’d be walking home in the dark.
Nevertheless we set off and had a lovely meal and played some games. It’s such a shame about the mechanical problems as this is where we were supposed to be last night in our full murder mystery costumes.
When we left at 9pm it was also raining and walking along a canal bank in the dark is a risky business. Most of us hadn’t brought coats either so improvised with black bin liners, so stylish. We sang most of way back, and used our phone torches to stop us falling in. It’s never dull in this family.
