Flower Power

I'm really pleased that the globe artichoke plant I bought last autumn has taken and grown.  When I visited my allotment today I was even happier as I found it in bloom.  Obviously if you want to eat the flower heads you do so before they blossom but as this plant is still establishing itself, I thought it best to leave it to grow.  The flowers look impressive if they are cut and dried so perhaps I will do that with one of the flower heads.  These plants seem somehow prehistoric with their big scales and spiky leaves!
