Regensburg

We woke this morning to find ourselves at Regensberg on the Danube river, still in Germany.

The city was not affected by bombing in WW11, so retains its narrow cobbled streets and tall houses in the old town. We did a walking tour and in free time went back to see more of St Peter’s Cathedral. The present building was started in 1273 and completed 600 years later. It is unusual with the lack of symmetry (pic in extras) , but has a beautiful interior.

Due to the length of time for construction, the spires were made from a new material called concrete !!! This has resulted in continuous work of maintenance, repair and restoration since 1923. The spires are a different colour from the natural stone in the lower levels.

There was plenty of opportunity for shopping in the tiny quaint shops....very upmarket expensive clothes!!! Window shopping was enough for me.
