The Sound of Music

We docked at Passau in Germany this morning and had chosen to do the full day trip to Salzburg, a two hour journey to the southwest, into Austria.

We did a walking tour visiting Mirabell Gardens, Mozart’s Square and viewing decorative streets and markets. We took the funicular up to the castle for the amazing sights of the city, then visited the Cathedral.....incredible!!!

The guide told us all about the history of the city and modern developments, also the involvement in the filming of the Sound of Music. Many scenes were shot in the Cathedral area.

After lunch the group headed for the lakes district of Austria and stopped at Mondsee to see the famous wedding church from the film. I’ve included an interior view in extras. The churches that we are visiting are incredible in different ways, reflecting the changes in architecture over the centuries.

Whilst we were travelling the ship has sailed to Linz, so that’s where we returned to this evening.
