Inchcolm Abbey
Today's the day ....................... to sail forth
Such an enjoyable day today spent cruising down the Firth of Forth from South Queensferry to the island of Inchcolm - and back again under the three Forth Bridges. It was last year's Christmas present to us from Ron and Margaret - and all the better for waiting until now to experience it.
The weather was perfect today - and thankfully, the water flat calm. The boat was the Maid of the Forth (see extra) and it took us about 45 mins to reach Inchcolm. We had enough time there for a guided tour of the wonderful Abbey by Canon Mark, who knew his stuff and kept us well entertained! Inchcolm has one of the best preserved Augustinian Abbeys in Scotland and it was great to see how such a building as Tongland Abbey might have looked in its heyday.
I took lots of pictures of the Forth Bridges - and on a day like today, the Railway Bridge positively glowed with colour. But I have to include one more shot of a real highlight of the day. I knew that blipper DaveH was a custodian on the island and I hoped that he might be there today. He was - and I got to actually meet him after many years of following his journal.
Brilliant . . . . . . !
