Pitt Island Shag .....

..... the Pitt Island Shag is restricted to the Chatham Islands and is endangered. It is the only black and white shag in the islands. They are found roosting in headlands along the coasts and are entirely marine.

We were fortunate to see some of these shags today, down at Owenga, in the SE of Chatham Island.

We also visited the Awatutara Reserve down in the south west of the island, and were lucky to see wood pigeons and fantails. We’ve been surprised not to see more bird life.
