Penrith Red Brigade
at Penrith Droving
After a vacant morning, I got some food shopping and walked on Barton. I couldn’t understand why I felt so cold but the penny dropped when I saw the first snow on the fells.
Then I went into town for the Winter Droving. I particularly wanted to see Kamchatka, a troupe of street performers from Catalonia http://kamchatka.cat/en/home/
I was surprised and pleased to discover that we have our own Red Brigade and realised an old colleague was waving one of the XR flags leading the way. We had a catch up and then I moved on to find Kamchatka who were roaming the streets with their suitcases looking lost and disorientated, engaging the crowd on their way. I shook each of their hands. It was rather affecting in its fluid encounter with strangers, engaging with others but then retreating to fear and a haunting look of lostness and disorientation.
Then the procession came through with all the lanterns, bands and torch bearers. Collage in extras.
