Liquid chortle

The sombre greenbul is described in my bird book as having a ‘liquid chortle’. Over dinner I recreated what this sound may be, and luckily people had already finished eating by that point.

Friday came and went with a more satisfying feeling than the rest of the week. Although I am in a Reserve in a wild part of Africa, I’m not spending any time hanging out the back of a vehicle, observing wild dogs. This paper with various notes symbolises a morning spent breaking through the mental barrier on budgets. We are at our desks super early here as Conservancy staff work 6-11am and 2-5pm. By 11am I’d cracked it just in time to call the boss in the UK for some clarifications as she got off the bus at the office.

Trevor returned from a week in the bush with one of the scout teams, having investigated a remote area following reports of illegal activity. He’s an old hand in southern African protected areas and it was fascinating over a dinner of stew to hear his tales of hunters gored by buffalo, lions caught in snares and stunning Kalahari sunsets.
