Cousins

The lovely Jess has made it up to Yorkshire on the very last leg of her gap year travels. She flies back home to Tasmania for Christmas and then on to the Gold Coast to begin a four-year course in nutrition and dietetics next year.

She knows her way around a few airport terminals now, arriving here from Hobart via Melbourne, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Athens, Santorini, Athens, Porto, Lisbon, Istanbul, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Bangkok, Istanbul, Heathrow, Gatwick, Vancouver, Oahu, Kauai, Oahu, Vancouver, Gatwick, Stansted, Carcasonne, Barcelona, Naples, Venice and Gatwick ... in that order.

She's seen a lot of the world in the last seven months, although not necessarily in the right order. She's a little embarrassed by her air miles, necessitated by a commitment in Cambodia, where she was teaching for a while, and in Hawaii, to meet up with her family. She's promised to put them back by planting trees. They're very fond of their trees in Tassy.

We were lucky to enjoy good weather today for a walk on the moor followed by a trip out to Burnsall to give Jess a taste of the Yorkshire Dales. She could understand why I've chosen to live up here.
