Skippy’s Half Century

Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

We went out to Chaophraya for a late lunch/early dinner to celebrate Skippy’s 50th.

Skippy had told her husband, Old Nick that she didn’t want a fuss so he took that on board, completely ignored it and organised for 8 of us to be there as a surprise.

Thankfully he had judged it well and she was over the moon to see us. We had a great time in the restaurant and then headed across the road to Badger & co which is a lovely pub and reminded me that my friend Bunty had the nickname ‘Badger’ years ago. Her flatmate had joked in the pub one night that she nicked his razor to tidy up her bikini area. She very indignantly said “I did NOT use your razor to shave my badger.”

It was an unfortunate moment to get her animals mixed up!

Anyway, back to the birthday. We moved from Beaver Badger and co because Old Nick had booked an area by the fireplace in another pub. This probably sounds lovely until you realise that the pub was Tiger Lily and the music drowns out the conversation of anyone sitting more than 30 cm away which kind of kills the group banter.

It was a good night and Skippy loved it but it is definitely a group of friends where there is always an element of low-level drama - a couple of people being a bit miffed with each other or he said or she said. Maybe there’s something to be said for cranking up the tunes!
