Swankiness

North Kerry seemed mostly closed in January ( a certain charm to that) and finding ourselves much in need of a coffee in Ballylongford we inquired in the post office if there was anywhere that might do the trick. We were instructed to visit the Swanky Bar.  I can't honestly say it lived up to its name but as Himself said, it was very real. Dark and cavernous inside with two massive screens at each end of the room, showing different programmes, very loudly. The coffee however was excellent, and you got a complimentary biscuit, I always like that.
A full on day in the field - the tower house in the extra was in a magnificent position nearly at the mouth of the Shannon, surrounded by salt marshes and teeming with birdlife. It looked even more atmospheric in the mizzle.
