Mordecai and the cat
Today's the day . . . . . . . . . . . . . for family history
Well, as they say, we've been on a journey today - that has taken us to quite a dark place. Will has been tracing his family history for a while - mainly online but with help from other family members. Today we went in search of actual evidence on the ground in a part of rural Wales that is still very remote.
And we were successful to a certain degree in finding things that were obvious - like the grave of Will's Great Aunt Ellen (see extra). But there are many pieces of the jigsaw that are still missing. Will did not know of the existence of his maternal grandmother until her death, by which time he was twelve years old. It was a family with lots of secrets.
But, the highlight of today would have to be a visit to Brian, son of Mordecai and a relative of Will. He made us so welcome and fished out some pictures of his side of the family. So here is his father at the tender age of around eight or so - with his cat . . . . . .
