Diary of an Edinburgher

Archie and the hummingbird

A big box arrived for Archie Marchmont. He was very excited, he doesn’t get many parcels addressed to him. It was from his American friends in Chattanooga (I didn’t need to write that, but it's such a lovely word, I did). Anne used to take him out for walks, and her mum and dad actually stayed here and looked after him one time. It was a colourful (solar) hummingbird to hang in the garden. Oh, and a silly framed photo of everyone. Thanks, y'all!

Snow today! Not lying, just snow/sleet flurries all day, in between bright sunshine. If you timed your outing well, you'd be OK. But I didn’t.

JR went off to the supermarket, and Archie was desperate to go for a walk, though when he reached the doorstep to leave, he stopped for a good long time to watch the gently falling snow, possibly changing his mind. But it soon stoppped, and we walked down to Victor Hugo's. It was busy, so - surprise surprise - I didn’t go in, but carried on across to the Meadows.

Of course, when we were at our furtherest point, the snow/sleet/wind started. Most unpleasant, all the way home. (4,738 steps)

JR then chose to walk along to a Morningside cafe to confirm a booking for her gym group's surprise birthday breakfast. Of course, as soon as she'd gone, the wind/snow/sleet returned with a vengeance.

Looks like more of the same tomorrow. Glad I don’t have to be anywhere.
