Today's the day .....................… for one of my favourites

You can't possibly not like goldfinches with their distinctive bright red face and yellow wing patch.

If you've got one - you've probably got several on the bird feeders - and they'll be having a bit of a scrap over who gets what.   They have a delightful liquid twittering song and call and a way of flying quite particular to them.

As you can see here, their long fine beaks allow them to extract tiny niger seed from feeders and later on otherwise inaccessible seeds from thistles and teasels...………………….
