Black Moor
What a fabulous morning for a great walk!
Very hard frost and icy in places but the sun shone and shone and the sky was as blue as can be.
Three ladies, one man and a dog walked up Station Road in Cullingworth to Flappit Springs and then beyond onto Black Moor (also known as Haworth Moor). The hard frost had made the mud solid but there were some boggy bits on the moor as well as frozen puddles.
As we crossed the main road to access the moor I spotted this carved into the stone wall. Odd as the road, between Flappit Springs and Manywells , doesn’t lead directly to either the village of Wilsden or the town of Bingley. No idea what the lettering stands for, perhaps someone can enlighten me.
The farm to the right on the skyline is one of two in Flappit that my mother lived in as a child. It was then called Laverock Hall Farm or locally as ‘Grow nowt’, probably accurate on the edge of the moorland. (You can see it more clearly on the extra together with the frosty grasses)
Great views and company, just saved from a cooked breakfast by being too early for the village cafes opening. Need to rectify that next time!
Thank you Wilsden Walker for organising.
