Now, as I see it......

Normanton Church

We had a great night last night at Sat Bains restaurant.  We had the ten course tasting menu; all the courses are small but intensely flavoured and we were certainly not left hungry.  The restaurant was not full but there were enough people to give it atmosphere and we noticed that the tables were set a safe distance apart from each other, and the staff were fastidious about hygiene.  A massive and comfortable bed gave us a great nights sleep and we had a superb breakfast this morning.  It's expensive; we probably could have had a week on a Greek island for the total cost but we love the fine dining experience and to us, it's a good way to spend our money.

We drove home across country and stopped off at Rutland Water for a walk from the car park to the dam and back; only a couple of miles but good to be out in the fresh air.  This is Normanton Church which was due to be demolished when the reservoir was built in the 1970's but a group of local people aimed to save it.  They filled in the lower half of the church with rubble and concrete raising the floor level considerably so that the top half is still in use for weddings and as an exhibition centre.  Once the reservoir was full it would have been on a small island so a causeway was built across to access it.
