Spot The Nuthatch
It's up there, just up there, see? Can't see it? Neither could we but we knew it was there because it's song was a constant. Maybe it was just Eeyore sitting in his house there, blowing a referee's whistle just to confuse us, though this was no gloomy place.
We had a long walk via the Cockit Hat to Dreghorn Woods, from Redford Road along the south side of the Braid Burn/Donald's Well as far as the houses at Dreghorn Loan, returning along the north side of Bonaly Burn/Braid Burn then crossing to The Gallolee, down to the Burn there and home via Colinton Mains and Oxgangs to Fairmilehead Park.
All the while there was birdsong - the nuthatches, wrens, robins, goldfinch, blue and great tits, we saw butterflies - peacock and tortoiseshell, and flowers - masses of few-flowered leek and others, including a small clump of bluebells, complete with bumblebee, see the extra photo.
This took over two hours so I think this makes up for the days I have stayed home.
