Ellar Carr
Phew, a 7 mile plus walk this morning! Bit more than we usually do but it was enjoyable.
Walking along the edge of the moor to our neighbouring village -
we could see our destination clearly (Hewenden viaduct on the Great Northern Rail Trail) and my childhood home is visible in front of it too - extra. It was sunny and warmer than yesterday and we had lambs in the fields and young rooks on the wall top under the Rookery at Hill End. They looked a bit flustered as we were very close to them but under the trees they were a bit silhouetted against the light.
When we got down into the woods at Ellar Carr this lovely patch of wild garlic with a sprinkling of bluebells looked and smelled fabulous.
Crossing the top of Cullingworth village we took the trail over the three viaducts. I thought this would be the busiest place for walkers, runners and dogs but it wasn’t too busy at all.
Returned via Harecroft and Bents Lane (nice poppies in the wall) dropping down to the top of Goit Stock woods and more bluebells on the way home.
It had started clouding up a bit on the way back and we got home just as a little bit of drizzly rain started. Well timed but too late for coffee, it was definitely lunch time! Some left over pizza from my homemade one made for tea last night was just what was needed.
Church quiz later.
Stay safe everyone
