APARTMENT FOR RENT

Between races at Road America I amused myself shooting odd pix. Saw this woodpecker hole in a tree next to the track...I like the texture of the tree bark.

ADDENDUM: I was photographing races this weekend and found myself under the same tree. In an idle moment I looked up and this is what I saw (see extra photo). This is a VERY big sporangium, the spore bearing structure of an internal fungus. This tree does not have long to live and the trillions of spores generated by this fungus will be spread around by the wind of race cars going past..thus to infect other healthy trees and ensure the survivability of the parent fungus. This is how life works.
