Tarn water

So, having commented on the lack of rain in yesterday's post, this morning it was raining when I went out for a run before work. I took this photo to show Dan later on; how much water is flowing over the lip of this pool is one of the ways we've been judging the water levels.

This little run - down to Devil's Bridge, along the river to Underley and through the estate, then home - makes for a perfect start to the day. It's not long enough to tire me out but it's really invigorating. And I always enjoy running through the estate remembering when we lived there, more than twenty years ago now.

Our water came from the tarn that's just off the road between Kearstwick and Old Town and I suspect it passed through this pool. The filtering wasn't that reliable and for a while we would occasionally get bursts of muddy water coming through the taps or you'd find a sediment left in the bath. (Eventually, the landlord sorted it out!)
