Chalk loving plants
Today I returned to the Tyneside Riverside Country Park to walk on the chalk hills, but this time with Margret (next door). We share a love for wildflowers and I knew she would like to see the chalk loving plants that are in bloom.
We saw more than yesterday. Today's extras were scabious, knapweed (centaurea), wild pansies (viola tricolor), loads of orchids, white common centuary (as well as the pink), spear thistles, deadly nightshade, mouse eared hawkweed, and many more!
The yellow wort in the image was new to me. The opposing leaves join around the stem.
We were early and that helped us to escape the worst of the heat. We were home for lunch.
I was delighted to hear thunder and see the rain start this evening. It did not last and it is still quite hot.
We watched four young musicians perform for the Penarth Chamber Music Festival and then saw the evening concert. Some pieces work better than others in the recordings/live performances. Oscar arrived during Ravel and made his opinion known loudly!
