Red Kite 2

Today's the day ……………………….. to call again

We saw lots of red kites yesterday on our way back from New Galloway.

It's very much their territory round there with a couple of feeding stations to augment the diet.  But it's the time of year when there's plenty of food to be had everywhere.  If there's hay being cut, there are usually quite a few kites keeping a look out for mice and other creatures disturbed by the tractors.

I managed to get a better shot of one of them in full cry.  I wrote a few weeks ago about the strange sort of whistling noise - that I always thought was someone calling his dog - that is actually the call of a red kite.  If you want to hear it again and imagine that sound coming from that deadly-looking beak, you'll find it here …………………
