My cousin has been 60 years married today.
I remember the day so well. July 9th 1960. Especially the extremely bright sunshine which made our eyes squint when the photos were being taken!
I was 12 years old and my sister 7 years old.
It was the first time we had ever been bridesmaids and it was very exciting. The dresses were a beautiful blue and made me feel like a princess.
I am on the far right and Shirley is obvious being the youngest by far.
Anne being the only daughter of our mum's brother, Ernie and his wife Lily ,she was born during WW2.
There are legendary stories about Uncle Ernie, who hated going back to his training camp in Catterick when Anne was born, and ended up being charged several times for being AWOL.
They moved up to West Cumbria later and the whole family have stayed in that area ever since. Their two sons living relatively close by.
One of the four grandsons was the only one to move out of area, now living in Manchester, where he is a Sports Journalist, and his wife a nurse at a hospital in Salford, nearby.
I have only ever been a bridesmaid twice since. Once in Eastbourne, East Sussex, for a friend, when we were by then living near Portsmouth, and once for my sister for her first marriage in Rawtenstall, Lancashire.
The extra is one of a roll of colour film which our dad put in his camera for the occasion. Colour films were relatively new in those days.
