White Horses
We woke up to a bit of sunshine this morning, so we got up and out early. We drove back to Wells as we really liked our brief visit there on Wednesday, and it was high tide so it was nice to see the beach with the sea, as it was a very low tide the other day and it wasn't even visible! We then walked into town along the digue and saw lots of kids fishing for crabs at the harbour. I even went into a shop (that was empty) and bought some wooden starfish!
The sky started to get very dark and Alan checked the rain radar and said that it was going to rain heavily very soon, so we walked back to the car and literally just got there when the heavens opened! So we sat in Bertie and shared a non alcoholic beer and waited until the rain stopped. We then drove into town as it looked like more rain was due and it's a mile walk from the beach car park, so we thought it was a bit far if there was another downpour. And sure enough, no sooner as we'd got to the town car park it rained again, so we waited for it to pass and then we walked into town. It's only small, but has a really nice feel about it.
We had lunch in Bertie and then drove to the Holkham Nature Reserve which we loved! We walked through the woodland and back along the beach where birds were nesting on the beach, and then we saw these young girls on their matching white horses. I had hoped they might go into the sea but they didn't, until they were on their way back but by which point we were too far away.
As we got back to the car, it started raining again - well timed once more! Then as we drove back to the cottage the sun came out and we passed the local pub which has outdoor seating and was very quiet, so we decided to go for a drink. By the time we arrived, there were more people but they still had room to accommodate us in the garden - in fact they only serve outside at the moment. The tables were well spaced and it was table service which was very efficient, and it felt quite novel going out for a drink! The only problem was that within no time the sky went very dark, but luckily it waited until I'd finished my glass of wine before it started raining. We were a bit wet by the time we got home though!
Tonight we've had a curry which I'd made before we came and froze it, so it was just a case of re-heating it, and then we've had the bottle of champagne that Alan bought yesterday.
So Boris is considering making face masks compulsary in shops - well all I can say is 'about time!' I felt that face masks should have been made mandatory right from the start of the pandemic, just like in other European countries, yet so many people disagreed with me, and the government played it down. So, let's see what happens next.....
