Holkham Deer Park
It rained quite a lot through the night, but although it's been very grey and quite cool, it didn't rain until about 3pm. So we ventured out and went to Burnham Overy Staithe to see the little boats in the harbour and then we drove to Burnham Market. which is a nice little town.
We had a wander round but it was fairly busy and I didn't want to go in any of the shops, although we passed a wine shop with no-one inside, and Alan said he'd buy us a bottle of champagne. On entry we had to wait near the door to have our hands sanitised before touching the bottles - great idea! The prices were very high though, with a bottle of Bollinger costing £52 whereas in Waitrose it's £35, so we settled on an unknown bottle of Rose champagne from a small producer who bottles it for this particular wine shop.
We then drove to Holkham Deer Park and we spotted the deer straight away, so headed in that direction first. It was a big herd and there were lots of babies which were very cute - my new monopod came in very handy and is ultra light to carry. We then walked through the woodland to the lake and headed back to Bertie for our picnic lunch, before visiting the walled garden which we had completely to ourselves. It started raining quite heavily on our walk back to the car so we got rather wet!
We're now back at the cottage and looking forward to a relaxing night. Fingers crossed the weather's a bit brighter tomorrow!
