Nerd Alert
This is exactly what it looks like -- my very own library card for the New York Public Library (NYPL). After class Sarah and I hiked up to the NYPL -- Science, Industry and Business Library. We were trying to go visit the lions at the main one, but we'll have to save that for another day (that's what we get when I lead the way... next time I'll leave the directions to Sarah).
Day 2 of the NYC Program and I'm already sick of this commute. NYC is definitely one of the greatest cities in this world, but a commute from the suburbs is borderline torture. Subletting a place in Hoboken or Jersey City needs to happen!
Well, that's enough complaining for one day...
Class was fabulous today! Gary DeWaal, Former Senior Managing Director and Group General Counsel of Newedge USA was our guest speaker today. Mr. DeWaal provided the class with an "Introduction to Futures and Cleared Swaps." Mr. DeWaal also talked a great deal about futures, clearing houses and options, all of which I knew very little about entering this program. Although my knowledge on these topics are minimal, I am learning more than I ever thought possible, and it's only day 2! C'mon, ask me what a credit default swap is, and I might be able to provide a semi-logical answer (something I never even fathomed). Mr. DeWaal was incredibly clear in his discussions this morning. I hope I am as lively and happy (and hopefully at least half as knowledgeable) as Mr. DeWaal after years of practice!
Overall I'd say that Day 2 was a success (especially because Sarah bought me lunch today: chicken parm panini from a place called Bread a Butter)!
Aside from the ridiculous amount of reading I want to get done to prepare for tomorrow's class, I have to figure out what I'm going to wear for the informal social tomorrow evening... Hmmm....
