Resting Rig

As you can see its still very wet and gloomy up north!

This Oil Rig is resting in the Cromarty Firth just outside Invergordon. At one time rigs were built at Nigg which is just a few miles further up, right at the mouth of the sea. In the '70s and '80s and even early '90s it used to be quite common to be able to spot up to 15 or 16 of these Rigs in the Firth at Invergordon awaiting maintenance or repairs before they went back out into the North Sea.

In recent years this has almost entirely stopped with only 2 or 3 rigs at most stationed here at any one time, and often none at all.
It may sound strange but I really miss them. They were such a big part of the landscape as I was growing up and actually incredibly beautiful in their own way, especially at night when they are lit up and you could see them scattered all the way down the Firth.

......Having a couple of really bad days pain-wise, exhausted. Early night tonight I think. Hopefully be feeling a bit better in the morning, I have a painting forming in my head so thats the plan for tomorrow :O)
Have a good weekend Blippers! xxx
