The Wheatsheaf at Beetham / Oregano
When I lived in Beetham, The Wheatsheaf was not a great pub. It was, apparently, a good restaurant, but the bar seemed to be little more than a holding pen for diners. I preferred to walk down the A6 to the Kings Arms at Hale to drink with the welcoming crowd that met there most evenings, including my then boss, Claire, and her husband, Ian.
However, since Beetham seems to be exerting a pull on me at the moment, I went back there again, today, to have lunch with the Minx at The Wheatsheaf. Guys, it was very good. I mean, I had the impression it would be good but it was better than that. Uncharacteristically for us, we ordered the same dish, a mushroom pasty that was excellent.
And in the evening, I made a pasta bake for Abi and cooked chilli for me and Dan. I used the Minx's oregano, too, grown and dried by her in one of those casual side projects that barely seem to get mentioned. (Well, to be fair, they probably do, I just don't remember.)
