Meet Mutt

The locals call this fella ‘Mutt’. They dug him up at Muttaburra, Qld.

Millions of years ago Australia had a large inland sea. Then followed repeated dryings and floodings. Many dinosaurs were buried in sand which became sandstone.

The inland is mostly desert now. As the surface erodes away it has become a rich source of fossils. Many inland towns have a local find.

Being a famous local, Mutt has a statue in the park. His bones are in the museum - which is strangely dog friendly!
