Back Home

I can’t say I’m delighted to be back in the ‘Windy City’, bursting as it is with humanity, after a week in the relative peace of open spaces, big skies and the wide restless sea.

Here there are tourists galore and students everywhere. Pandemic? Really? You would never guess although you might wonder why there are so many people wearing masks, some fumbling on the pavement searching for hearing aids that have come off with the masks and some with non see through misted glasses.

The new restrictions coming into place on Monday are possibly the last straw for people living on their own after 6 months of their own company. I’m glad our group of 3 Merry Widows managed to fit in our holiday last week as this coming week it would have been against the rules.

There was much walking done today round and about the environs to add to my challenge of walking 100 K for Maggie’s. Since the beginning of the month I’ve pounded pavements and paths to reach a total of 172K or 107 Miles with 2 weeks still in hand. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support I have had and feel that I should do as many miles as I can to justify the generosity of my supporters who have donated £754 so far. I only wish the exercise didn’t make me so hungry that I could actually get back my pre Covid weight.
